Principal's Message

NCHS is a school rich in history and tradition as well as being one of the cornerstones of the community of Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia and the surrounding area.  The 2017-18 school year marks its 68th year of existence and it is the only remaining school of its architectural design remaining in Nova Scotia.  Our school is also somewhat unique in that it encompasses grades 7 through to grade 12 with an overall population of approx 205 students, with an almost equal distribution of students in both Junior and Senior High.  Our staff are dedicated teachers and educators who make every effort to support our students both academically and socially, and we have a variety of supports available to assist students with their academic program.

On Dec. 23, 2013 Karen Casey, Minister of Education for the province of Nova Scotia, announced a new P-12 school for Tatamagouche.  The new school will replace both the Tatamagouche Elementary School and North Colchester High School combining all grade levels in one building.

It was announced in Aug 2014 by the Minister of Education Karen Casey that the new school will be built on the present site.  Construction of the new school began in July 2016, with the expectation that it will be completed by Jan. 2018.

In addition to the supports available to students, a student information system known as Powerschool has been fully implemented and allows parent/guardians to monitor student progress, period by period attendance, and assessment information on a regular basis.  If you need help with your log-in, please contact the school.

Finally, I would like to welcome the grade 7 class and new students to NCHS, and acknowledge the graduating class of 2018 as they begin their final year of public school education.  I am a firm believer that the school experience is enhanced by offering a variety of opportunities and options for students to become involved in school life, and I encourage students to get involved in the many school activities we have to offer at NCHS.

OurParent Teacher Orientation evening is Thursday evening, September 14  from 6 to 7:30 p.m.  I will look forward to meeting parents at that time. Teachers will be in their classrooms to greet you and discuss your child’s curriculum.  Teachers will be explaining to parents the content and expectations of their courses.

If you have any questions, call the school directly at 657-6200.  Please visit our school website at www.nchs.ccrsb.cafor a monthly calendar of events and other important information.
